| July's Breath of Fresh Air from
Akasha.... |

Hi Everyone,
I’m just skating in under the wire with this month’s
newsletter. So apologies to those of you who wondered where
it was and happy holidays to those of you who are away at the
moment. I hope you enjoy it on your return!
What a month it’s been. On the 22nd July, I took the huge
step of formally committing my life to service and was ordained as
an Interfaith Minister …..and today I facilitated the first
Healing Experience workshop with a group
of wonderful people – what an honour and a privilege.
Everyone gained so much from the day, that I am offering another
one on the 15th October 2006.
Thank you again for your lovely comments about the
newsletter. When I saw the emails coming through, I thought
that you had all spotted my mistake in last months
newsletter…..where the Y of Spirituality
disappeared itself and Tolerance appeared twice in different
guises! …..but instead they were more positive affirmations that
you are enjoying the newsletter and finding it uplifting.
By the way……just so you know that if you do want to find out
what the Y stands for the full, correct version is in our
newsletter
archive where you will also find all the past
issues. This is also the place to visit if you receive the
newsletter in a format that is not easy to read.
Anyway, as my Jewish friends say “enough already” …..HOW
ARE YOU? It’s already the end of July – more
than half of 2006 behind us. It will soon be Xmas
again!! How is your year shaping up? Has it progressed
the way you wanted so far? Are you happy and content?
Are you laughing lots and having fun? I really hope so
because life is too short not to enjoy it.

Procrastination: the Enemy of Action
It’s very easy to keep putting things off …“I’ll do it
tomorrow”. Then tomorrow becomes next week, next year, the
year after and then never. My grandmother used to say “Never
put off until tomorrow, what you can do today” – good advice (not
that I always follow it…..sometimes I can procrastinate for
Britain!)
How about you? What are you putting off? Do you need
to call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while and say “Hi, how
are you?” Do you need to change your job? Do you need
to get out of a relationship that’s past its sell by date? Do
you need to do some work on yourself to move your life
on? (I’ll leave you to think on it …..but don’t forget
to also TAKE ACTION…….because this isn’t the dress rehearsal!)
I often find that a helpful aid to avoiding procrastination is
to write an Action List. However the trick is not to write things
in more than blocks of six. This way the eye and mind
perceives it as less daunting than a long, never-ending list.
So, number 1 thru 6 then put a line break with a smiley face (my
preference is a heart!) and then do another 1-6 etc.
Highlight the real priorities with a marker pen. Naturally, I can’t
guarantee that it will help every time, but there is something
hugely satisfying about ticking off what you have achieved.
In fact a friend told me the other day, that he adds things that he
has done but which weren’t originally on the list ….just so that he
can tick it and feel good. I thought that was quite a neat
idea…..and a good way to reinforce just how much you actually have
done (very important for those days where you believe you have done
virtually nothing but don’t seem to have paused for breath
either!)
Ask yourself
this:
Is your life great or do you need to do something more to move
it on and create the life you really want?

A Bit of Fun
Just so you know that being a Reverend won’t stop me
from being irreverent occasionally …….here’s a bit of fun that a
friend sent me recently.
Far away in the tropical
waters of the Caribbean, two prawns were swimming around in the
sea, one called Justin, the other called Christian. The
prawns were constantly being harassed and threatened by sharks that
inhabited the area.
Finally one day, Justin said
to Christian, “I’m fed up with being a prawn. I wish I was a
shark, then I wouldn’t have any worries about being eaten”
Suddenly from out of nowhere, a large and mysterious cod appeared
and said “Your wish is granted”…and lo and behold, Justin turned
into a shark. Horrified, Christian immediately swam away, afraid of
being eaten by his old mate.
Time passed (as it does) and
Justin found life as a shark boring and lonely. All his old
mates simply swam away whenever he came close to them. Justin
didn’t realise that his menacing appearance was the cause of his
sad plight but whilst swimming alone one day he saw the mysterious
cod and thought “maybe he could change me back into a prawn
again”….and lo and behold, he found himself turned back into a
prawn!
With tears of joy in his tiny
little eyes, Justin swam back to his friends and bought them all a
cocktail (keep reading, the punchline does not involve prawn
cocktails…..)
Looking around the gathering
at the reef he realised he couldn’t see his old pal. “Where’s
Christian?” he asked. “He’s at home, still distraught that
his best friend changed sides to the enemy and became a
shark”
Eager to put things right
again and end the mutual pain and torture, he set off to
Christian’s abode. As he opened the coral gates, memories
came flooding back. He banged on the door and shouted “It’s
me Justin, your old friend, come out and see me
again!”
Christian replied, “No way
man, you’ll eat me. You’re a shark, the enemy and I won’t be
tricked into being your dinner.”
Justin cried back with all his
might “No, I’m not. That was the old me. I’ve changed, I’ve
found Cod. I’m a prawn again,
Christian.”

Just a Minute.......
A close friend of mine asked if I could spread the word about
the following special event which is happening on Wednesday
17th September 2006 at London’s Wembley
Arena.
“just-a-minute is a global initiative to shift
consciousness in our busy, noisy world by introducing regular
one-minute pauses and breaks, when individuals can re-connect with
their core self, their strengths and their values.
Celebrating 70 years of Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University,
the just-a-minute project includes a website with one-minute spoken
meditations to download onto computers or podcast; a creative viral
campaign; a launch with events in major cities across the world,
including Rio, Moscow, Sydney, Johannesburg and Madrid plus a
simultaneous minute wave of peace to be linked live on the internet
to over 100 countries.”
Check it out here: www.just-a-minute.org
Because we like
them……
We decided that each month we would include a few links to other
sites, either because we know the people concerned and think they
are great or we were inspired by the site and wanted to share it
with you. By the way, these are not affiliate links and no money is
received for including them.
This month's theme is holiday based.

Really useful
information….
The recent spell of hot weather here in the UK has been amazing
but also quite overpowering sometimes….so here is a tip that my
friend Mary sent me.
Freeze a plastic bottle full of water (a 1 ½ litre used Mineral
water bottle is good)..then place it in front a fan.
The air from the fan then becomes even cooler (until the water
melts of course)
My very own personal tip is one that has been a complete bonus
which has been to fill a “hot water bottle” at night with cold
water. A total joy to cool the bed, and my very hot feet
down!
