August's Breath of Fresh Air from Akasha....

Hi everyone,

Bonjour from the beautiful Lot-et-Garonne region of France where John and I have been taking a break.  If you have been on holiday too, I hope you had a great time and feel really refreshed.

As always what occurs in life usually inspires the newsletter and the feature this month relates to a recent event here in France.  So let’s dive straight in…..

 * Feature: Synchronicity or Coincidence?

*  Ask Yourself This

*  Inspiring Story: What goes around, comes around

*  Because we like them.....

Feature: Synchronicity or Coincidence?

I have always been fascinated by the stories of intuition prompting people not to do certain things….like get on a train that subsequently crashes or how something happened on a particular day that prevented them being involved. This is the experience we had this month.

On Monday 14th August, John and I were intending to collect a friend from Bordeaux airport but I was feeling really unwell.  However, it was not a “normal” unwell…..I felt very dizzy and light headed as though I was going constantly going to faint.  So I decided to rest and hope it passed before they got back. Just before he left, I felt prompted to suggest that he take his driving licence and passport with him – “in case he should need them for some reason.”

About half an hour before they were due, John called from his mobile to say that they had been involved in a bad accident not far from the local motorway turnoff.  The line was crackling and whilst John was very shaken, I managed to hear that they were both unhurt but the police were coming and he needed me to do certain practical things.

At this point, I was still feeling quite unwell and when I realised that I would need to speak French, which I don’t, I called a local friend……..who having been away for four days, had just stepped though the door at the moment I called. He phoned two other friends who had also just arrived home and they all came over to offer practical and loving support.

Later, John called to say that apart from the passport and driving licence, the police needed my car insurance details………..which I had accidentally left in the UK!!   So I called the friend who checks the house and waters the plants to see if he could go in and get them.  “Lucky you called today” he said “I’m away for three days from tomorrow”.  Being very computer savvy, he was able to scan them in and email them over…….so that I could print them out on the printer that we had just bought.

So everything got sorted out pretty smoothly and because we had taken out the AA European Breakdown cover (which we had actually hesitated about because my car is so reliable), we have been provided with a hire car for France and then one to get us home in the UK.

When I saw my written off car with numerous impact marks and no front wheels, I also saw what a miracle it was that not only were John and my friend unhurt, but so was the wife, the two small children and the driver of the other car.

The reason for the accident………..the driver of the other car had fallen asleep at the wheel.   So had I not have been unwell that day, the outcome would no doubt have been quite different and a lot worse!

So were all the events down to synchronicity or fate……..I’m sure you’ll guess which one I go for.   What I do know is how lucky we were and how important it is to really appreciate and be grateful for what you have right now…….because you never know when you won’t have it anymore.

Ask yourself this:

Do you need to tell someone you love them before it might be too late?
Do you really appreciate everything you have in your life?

Inspiring Story: What goes around, comes around (long but worth it)

He almost didn't see the old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her.

Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn't look safe; he looked poor and hungry.

He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was that chill which only fear can put in you.

He said, "I'm here to help you, ma'am. Why don't you wait in the car where it's warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson."

Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt. As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldn't thank him enough for coming to her aid. Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk. The lady asked how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped.

Bryan never thought twice about being paid. This was not a job to him. This was helping someone in need, and God knows there were plenty who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed! And Bryan added, "And think of me." He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearing into the twilight.

A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn't erase. The lady noticed the waitress was heavily pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan.

After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change but the old lady had gone by the time she came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something written on the napkin. There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote: "You don't owe me anything. Somebody once helped me out, the way I'm helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you." Under the napkin were four more $100 bills.

That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard. She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered, "Everything's gonna be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson."
