Career coaching

Do you want a better job - or a better career?

There are times in most people's careers where they need to review where they are going and what it is all for. Most people are faced with several times in their lives when they have a career choice to make. The challenge is whether to make a career and life limiting decision or a career and life enhancing one?

Ask yourself:

  • Do you have a job or a career?
  • Do you currently like your job?
  • Is your job working for you?
  • Are you not working?
  • Do you feel stuck, in a career plateau or a bottleneck?
  • Are you lacking opportunities for advancement?

Maybe you need to think about what you are doing with your career right now. Is it going the way you want or is it time to do something about it? Because the consequences may be increasing frustration and dissatisfaction - or maybe an acceptance of what is second best. Or maybe a whole new approach to your life, what it means for you, what you want to achieve, and the style of life you want to create.

Why have career coaching?

You may choose coaching for a whole variety of reasons. Here are some:

  • You have reached a turning point in your career and feel unsure which way to go next
  • Life-changing events, outside work, have caused you to think hard about what is important and what you really want - or made the existing or previous work no longer possible
  • Issues that have arisen in your role and you need to decide what to do next
  • Organisational change has affected you and your role
  • Personal change
  • A need to take time out to review where you are going
  • Lack of career progression: you are perhaps beginning to feel stuck
  • A need to move away from what you have been doing
  • Feeling stale
  • Seeking meaning and purpose in your work
  • Simply want a better life than what you've got

A career coaching programme

We'd start by reviewing what is happening at the moment, where you feel stuck and what you want from your career. Much of the key work is likely to be in helping you decide what your career vision is, what you want to achieve - many of us don't really know that. Then we'd put in place an action plan to help you achieve the goal. So we'd very likely cover such things as:

  • Managing change
  • Effective career management
  • Self-awareness
  • The changing needs of organisations in the market place
  • Career vision
  • Profile management
  • Action planning

But we don't stop there. Good coaching will give you support in rolling out your plans, in developing a strategy, in taking the steps to realise your goals. This might include discovering the key tools that will help you, any training and development, overcoming any obstacles - in fact developing a whole new approach towards your career.

The services

Career Coaching is offered in four key levels of service. It is provided by telephone, although 1-to-1 meetings can be arranged for a more in-depth service at the higher levels. While some people wish to focus on how they are presenting themselves and their CV's, often the most important and useful work is in the areas of self-awareness and self-knowledge since this impacts all the follow-up work that is done.

Bronze level

A short, rapid, targeted analysis and support service, with e-mail contact and a 1 hour telephone discussion.

  • Initial contact by e-mail, with a CV being supplied by the client
  • Telephone discussion of needs and review of CV
  • E-mail review of CV

This particularly suits those who have an application pending, need a quick review or help with their initial marketing. It would also appeal to those who are budget conscious.

Silver level

A 3-stage process involving three 1-hour telephone sessions and e-mail support, this level enables development of ideas and then reflection time before further discussions

  • Review of client needs and career objectives
  • CV review and development, by phone and e-mail
  • Discussion of methods of self-promotion
Gold level

An in-depth session of 1.5 hours and a series of four 1-hour telephone support sessions and e-mail support, covering all areas of the job search and career development process

  • Initial discussion of needs and goals
  • Career review and identification of appropriate career goals
  • CV development and review
  • Development of a marketing strategy
  • Support with particular issues, including interview technique

This will suit those who need more in-depth support to resolve career challenges and develop an effective route to realise new ambitions

Platinum level

This is the premium service for those who are looking to develop their career and achieve high-level results. It includes a series of 4 in-depth 1.5 hour sessions, two follow-up 1 hour sessions, and e-mail support

  • Initial discussion of needs and exchange of documentation
  • In-depth session to review career issues and develop options
  • Further discussion after reflection, and CV development
  • Development of options for self-promotion
