Nov/December's
Breath
of
Fresh
Air
from
Akasha |

Hi
everyone,
Thank you to
those of you
who emailed to
ask where the
newsletter
was!
I am delighted
that you not
only look
forward to
receiving it
but actually
notice when it
hasn’t
come.
The reason for
the delay is
that with the
seasonal break
fast
approaching,
I
decided to
combine both
the November
and December
issues. So
after this one,
the next will
be in the brand
new year of
2007.
As many people
tell me that
this is the
time of year
that they like
to reflect on
what has been
and what might
be in the New
Year, this
month’s feature
is an
opportunity for
you to consider
whether your
life is lived
from the “Half
Empty or Half
Full”
principle.
It was inspired
by the recent
comments of a
client who,
despite
believing that
the cup was
half empty, saw
quite quickly
how a small
shift in
thinking, meant
that it was
actually half
full!
Enjoy.

Feature:
Half Empty
or Half
Full?
Essentially
what this means
is “are you an
optimist or a
pessimist?”
What’s your
immediate gut
response to
that
question?
We usually know
which is our
predominant way
of reacting to
situations.
The client I
mentioned above
has previously
tended to live
life from a
belief that if
something good
happens, it
will be quickly
followed by
something
bad.
To illustrate
what he meant,
he told me of
two instances
that had
occurred a
while back.
The first was
how he
unexpectedly
won £40 during
a fun evening
out.
It wasn’t a
fortune but he
was really
pleased because
he had never
won anything
before. Then
two days later,
he had a
problem with
his car and it
cost £50 to put
right, which
took all the
pleasure out of
winning the
£40.
The second was
relating to an
incredible
holiday that he
and his wife
enjoyed.
They both
returned
feeling
refreshed,
relaxed and
happy.
A week later a
family crisis
arose and he
felt like the
whole holiday
had been
totally wasted,
“I knew it
would all end
in
tears”.
What’s your
reaction to
these two
incidents?
Is it perhaps
the
same?
Or do you have
a different
take on
it?
This was the
reframing I
offered.
For the first
incident, I
suggested that
the repair to
his car had in
fact only cost
him £10 because
he already had
an unexpected
£40 and for the
second, I asked
“How much
harder would
the family
crisis have
been to deal
with, if you
hadn’t had the
sort of holiday
that left you
feeling so
good?
It would have
meant that your
emotional and
energetic bank
account would
have been a lot
lower than it
was.”
He saw the
difference
immediately
-
it was an
“aha!”
moment.
Now I’m not
suggesting that
all future
events will be
looked at from
a “half full”
perspective,
but his
increased
awareness will
probably prompt
him to consider
a different
view.
Next month,
I’ll give you a
short exercise
to try that
will
demonstrate the
inner impact of
living from
either half
empty or half
full.

Food
for
thought:
RISKS
To
laugh
is
to
risk
being
a
fool
To
weep
is
to
risk
appearing
sentimental
To
reach
out
for
another
is
to
risk
involvement
To
show
feelings
is
to
risk
showing
yourself
To
place
your
ideas,
your
dreams
before
a
crowd
is
to
risk
their
loss
To
love
is
to
risk
not
being
loved
in
return
To
live
is
to
risk
dying
To
hope
is
to
risk
despair
To
try
is
to
risk
failure
But
risks
must
be
taken,
because
the
greatest
hazard
in
life
is
to
risk
nothing
Those
who
risk
nothing,
do
nothing,
have
nothing
and
are
nothing
They
may
avoid
suffering
and
sorrow
But
they
cannot
learn,
feel,
change,
grow,
love,
live
Chained
by
their
certainties,
they
are
slaves
They
have
forfeited
their
freedom,
Only
a
person
who
risks…….is
truly
free.
